Becoming Who We Are In Christ:
In Christ we are: A REDEEMED FAMILY of SERVANTS on MISSION.
If we are in Christ, that is who we are. It’s also who we increasingly want to become. As Paul can say to the Ephesians (4v1): “I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.” In other words, become, in increasing measure, who you already are in Christ. Live out your new identity. Our identity is something we are, and something we strive for. Our identity is now and not yet. Let’s take a closer look at each element of that identity:
WE ARE REDEEMED…
That is a slave market analogy. It means:
- We are bought out of slavery to sin and death.
- We are brought at a price: the precious blood of the Son of God.
- We have a new Master. He is not a tyrant like sin and death. He is a good Master. In fact, he is a Father.
- We are bought out of slavery to sin and death, we are bought into a Family…
WE ARE A REDEEMED FAMILY…
What is life in the family like? Life in the family is…
- Secure – it is anchored in the eternal will of God and in his unbreakable love for us.
- A pursuit of the family likeness – we want to be like the Father whose name we take and so we pursue love, righteousness, purity and unity.
- Ordered – there is structure and hierarchy. All of us are called to lovingly submit and sacrificially lead in different contexts.
- Real – We confront sin and deal with conflict in a godly manner.
WE ARE A REDEEMED FAMILY OF SERVANTS…
We are servants. Servanthood is:
- Something we are, before it is something we do. It is our identity because we follow the servant King.
- A gift – God gives us the gift of each other and he transforms us into his likeness as we serve one another, and our world…
WE ARE A REDEEMED FAMILY OF SERVANTS ON MISSION…
Our mission is:
- To bring those who are on the outside, into the Family; to move those who are dead in their sins on to maturity in Christ.
- A joint venture – All of us in the Redeemed Family of Servants are on this Mission
Identity, Vision, Mission and Philosophy
How does who we are (Identity) relate to where we want to go (Vision), what we are going to do to get there (Mission), and how we are going do it (Philosophy of ministry)?
Identity: If we increasingly become who we are in Christ (A Redeemed Family of Servants on Mission) then our prayer is that it will take us to a place where…
Vision: …Christ Church Midrand is the hub of a network of churches, schools, and Christian organizations across Africa that is raising up the next generation of disciples and servant leaders. What we will we do to make that happen? What Jesus told us to do…
Mission: We will make disciples who make disciples. How will we do that? The way it’s always been done at CCM, and in the church universal for 2000 years…
Philosophy of ministry: We will make disciple-making disciples through the ministry of the Word in the power of the Spirit.
