Blessed Lord, You have inspired all Holy Scriptures to be written for our learning and maturity: help us to heed them, read, mark, learn and absorb them, that, encouraged, corrected and supported by Your Holy Spirit, we may hold fast and not let go the joyful hope of everlasting life, which You have given us in our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
DATE: 26 JANUARY (DAY 2)
BIBLE PASSAGE: LUKE 1:39–66 DAILY PRAYER:
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, we praise You for leading and inspiring Luke through Your Holy Spirit to put together this orderly account of the life, words, and work of Jesus. Help us to praise and rejoice in our liberation from the captivity of sin and the favour of being called Your children. So that in finding great certainty in these good news, we may learn to trust You and live for You even when everything around us seems uncertain. Amen.
DATE: 27 JANUARY (DAY 3)
BIBLE PASSAGE: LUKE 1:67–2:52
Loving, merciful and gracious Father, thank You for Jesus who saved us from eternal condemnation. Please open the eyes of those who are still blind to Your saving grace. Use us to love and disciple in truth to enable the unsaved to recognise Jesus as their Messiah and the only solid ground in a world of sinking sand. Amen.
DATE: 28 JANUARY (DAY 4) – (Thursday’s are family devotion days)
BIBLE PASSAGE: LUKE 3
(Please read the passage in the CEV version, Big Picture Story Bible or Jesus Storybook Bible)
Dear God, thank You that You love us and care about us. We thank You that when we turn away from our sins, You forgive us. Thank You for Jesus, the Son of God who was born to rescue us from our sins. Please help us to trust in the good news about Jesus so that we can be friends with him. Amen.
DATE: 29 JANUARY (DAY 5)
BIBLE PASSAGE: LUKE 4:1–5:11
Merciful Father, we thank You for Your unconditional love displayed to us through Christ. Thank You for the genealogy in Luke’s gospel which reminds us that our relationship with You is rooted in history. Help us, Heavenly Father, to see that in Your sovereignty You led Jesus to be tempted so that He could become our perfect representative before You. Thank You that Jesus, our Messiah, succeeded where all humanity has failed, and that for this reason, He is able to bring us out of slavery to sin. Amen.
