One Reason – A Collaboration

Two musical projects are captured on this album in live and studio recordings. Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs (September 2018), is a collection of songs inspired by the call of Colossians 3:16 to let the Word of Christ dwell in us richly as we sing with gratitude in our hearts to God. HomeGrown (October 2018) is a collaborative project of original songs (Psalm 96:1) written by local Christians for the local church.

Both projects reflect on the overwhelming love of God for a lost humanity: coming to this hostile world; living the life we refuse to live; dying the death we deserve to die. In love he invites us to trust in Christ, so that we will not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16). That is worth singing about!

[expand title=”1. ONE REASON – Words and Music by Roydon Frost, Bronwen Anderson and Steven de Longchamps. Arranged by Fuzz, 2018. Lead singer: Steven de Longchamps.”]

MOTIVATION BEHIND THE SONG…

Why did God become man? Why would he do that? This is the mystery that inspired this song. As far as I can tell, the Bible only gives one answer. The answer is Love. It’s not what we think of when we say love, the kind of love that is an emotional response to someone who meets my needs. The kind of love that responds to someone who is loveable. We are not loveable when God loves us. God’s love has everything to do with who God is, and nothing to do with who we are. God’s love is the One reason. – Roydon Frost

LYRICS

Verse 1
Why would you trouble to
walk on this street
For sweat on your brow
and dust on your feet
Why would you suffer
to enter so near?
Into the pain,
the chaos, the fear.

Verse 2
What could have moved
you to leave heaven’s light?
To wander the darkness,
wade into the night?
What could have moved you
to leave heaven’s court?
To pay with your blood –
What have you bought?

Chorus
One reason, one motive,
one cause to be found
One heartbeat to God’s great design
His love is the meaning,
His love the sure ground
In love I am His
By grace, I am His
Through the cross I am His
and He is mine

Verse 3
Who is so precious?
Who is the prize?

Who ever earned the
gaze of your eyes?
Why would you suffer
to enter so near?
Who is so precious?
Who is so dear?

Verse 4
How could our God
hang from a cross?
How could our gain
be born of His loss?
Where are we going,
and where does it end….?
To be near King Jesus,
Saviour and Friend.

Bridge
He is for us! He is for us!
His purpose is clear
He loves us! he loves us!
We shall not fear
He shows us, he tells us,
‘t rings out from above:
O praise Him! Let’s praise… Him!
Our God is Love.

He is for us! He is for us!
His purpose is clear
He loves us! he loves us!
We shall not fear
He shows us, he tells us,
‘t rings out from above:
O praise Him! Let’s praise… Him!
Our God is Love.
Our God is Love.

Chorus
One reason, one motive,
one cause to be found
One heartbeat to God’s great design
His love is the meaning,
His love the sure ground
In love I am His
By grace, I am His

Ending
Through the cross I am His
and He is mine

[expand title=”3. GOD OVERWHELMING – Words and Music by Gareth Maggs, Arranged by Fuzz and Bronwen Anderson, 2018. Lead Singer: Gareth Maggs.”]

MOTIVATION BEHIND THE SONG…

I pictured myself standing before Jesus as he’s dying on the cross. The God of all creation, just a few feet away from me, sacrificing himself for a small part of his creation; people. That thought alone made me speechless. However, knowing that I was one of those people who he loved so much that he would give his life, this left me with a flood of emotions. The only response I could have to a God of such grandeur and grace is to be overwhelmed and to say to that Lord, MY LORD, “Take every part of me; my lips, my feat, my eyes… may my life ever be to God Overwhelming” – Gareth Maggs

LYRICS

Verse 1
Here I stand at Your cross
And I’m overwhelmed.
The God of the world is paying my cost.
Author of nations
Rocks cry out his name
The Lord of creation
now nailed for my shame

Chorus
May my lips ever praise God overwhelming.
May my feet ever walk in His glorious ways.
May my eyes ever long, for His kingdom come.
May my life ever be to God Overwhelming

Verse 2
Alpha Omega, with thorns in his brow
Leader of angels,
at the hands of the crowds
Oh, what infinite mercy
displayed on that tree.
Despised and rejected,
By the ones he redeems

Verse 3
Lion of Judah
Now a lamb lying slain
A consuming Fire
Now a smouldering flame
Oh what love overwhelming
What unfathomable Grace
When Jesus my Saviour
Died in my place

MOTIVATION BEHIND THE SONG…

The Bible is very real about life. Life is not easy. The Christian life is not easy. We face very real struggles. But God gives us everything we need to keep going. He gives us himself. In Jesus Christ we stand. – Roydon Frost

LYRICS

Verse 1
When corruption is my shadow
And sin my daily bread
When my days are drenched in sorrow
My nights in sinner’s dread
When despair is my companion
I will look to You instead
When despair is my companion
I will look to You instead

Verse 2
When the voices rage against me
Screaming “Christian take your seat!”
Or sing sweetly “Come and join us,
That way ends in sure defeat,”
When the world bears down upon me
I will stand and not retreat
When the world bears down upon me
I will stand and not retreat

Chorus
Though we stumble, though we fall
Though we falter at the call
We are steadied by Your Hand
And in Jesus Christ we stand!

Verse 3
When the powers are about me
Dark forms on every side
With snares set to enslave me
Dark schemes to steer my stride
When the evil one comes for me
To You I run and hide
When the evil one comes for me
To You I run and hide

Verse 4
And when death sits at my table
When it lingers at my door
When my days stretch out behind me
And my prospects are no more
When the grave decrees a silence
I will listen for Your call

When the grave decrees a silence
I will listen for Your call

Bridge
… O Lord give
Strength to the weak
Hope to the meek
Courage to the faint of heart
… O Lord give
Strength to the weak
Hope to the meek
Courage to the faint of heart

… O Lord give
Strength to the weak
Hope to the meek
Courage to the faint of heart
… O Lord give

MOTIVATION BEHIND THE SONG…

LYRICS

Verse 1

Chorus
Josh he fit the battle of Jericho
Josh he fit the battle of Jericho
Josh he fit the battle of Jericho
And the walls, oh the walls,
The walls came tumbling down

Verse 1
All these opinions in my head,
How many arguments do we have left?
Who do you believer when
Everybody’s tongue is,
Everybody’s tongue is loose?
And if you dare to refute
They say you’re straying from the truth.
Oh Lord, am I really sure
That I’m living for your good book?
And this doubt is worrying.
Revive my faith and
Help me sing like a child again.

Verse 2
You see, I hear different
people coming my way.
For some things I’m like “Nah,
you can hit the highway!’
One time, one particular Friday
We were not one; all believers.
Can I say, had a question,
Which one is the path?
All quoting scripture saying
You do the math
But then came a scientist
I admit I thought “Is it legit?”
Evolution, dinosaurs do I gotta take a pick?
Hey but think, pause, who is the source?
With true revelation
Truth no flaws in the mix
Christ gonna fix All the confusion all put to rest
All picturesque that cross
Nothing more is the reason we blessed

Yes

Everybody wants my heart to say
Black and white is the God I praise.
My problem is that God is real,
His heart still is full of zeal.
Ey! You don’t get it do you?
I’m tired of listening to you
Compromising conversations
Caught up in your world view.
Persona is kaleidoscope;
Horizon is a ray of hope.
I’m made in his image
Picture large that’s why you can’t cope.
Let me be me!
Reflective of the great He
The cross is the path I chose
And captain is the G-o-d
I’m done!

Bridge 2
I go, where you go, that’s what I call I faith (FAITH)
While you move, the mountains
Don’t stand in your way (WAY)
I bend my knees
Stretch my hands up to pray (PRAY)
Cause all that you told me
is trust and obey

LYRICS

Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done
On earth, as it is in heaven

Give us, this day, our daily bread,
and forgive us all our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the Kingdom,
The power and the glory,
Forever and ever, amen

LYRICS

Come, Thou Fount of every blessing,
Tune my heart to sing Thy praise.
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.

Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart.
Naught be all else to
me, save that Thou art.

Teach me some melodious sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above.
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

I need Thee every hour,
most gracious Lord.
No tender voice like
Thine can peace afford.

How… How marvelous! How wonderful!
And my song shall ever be
How marvelous! How wonderful!
Is my Saviour’s love!

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound!
That saved a wretch like me,
I once was lost, but now I’m found,
was blind, but now…

This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Saviour all the day long!

I need thee, oh, I need
thee!
Every hour I need Thee!

Oh, bless me now, my
Saviour, I come to Thee

Prone to wander Lord I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love…
Here’s my heart, Lord, take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above.

[expand title=”11. IN CHRIST ALONE – Words by Stuart Townend, Music by Keith Getty, Arr. Noël Tredinnick, 2001..”]

LYRICS

Verse 1
In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song;
This cornerstone, this solid ground,
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My Comforter, my All in All,
Here in the love of Christ I stand.

Verse 2
In Christ alone who took on flesh,
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save,
Till on that cross, as Jesus died,
The wrath of God was satisfied,
For every sin on Him was laid;
Here in the death of Christ I live.

Verse 3
There in the ground his body lay;
Light of the world by darkness slain:
Then bursting forth in glorious day
Up from the grave He rose again!
And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me.
For I am His and He is mine,
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

Verse 4
No guilt in life, no fear in death,
This is the power of Christ in me;
From life’s first cry to final breath,
Jesus commands my destiny.
No power of hell,
no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand;
Till He returns or calls me home,
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand!

[expand title=”14. FACING A TASK UNFINISHED – Words and Music by Frank Houghton, Keith Getty, Kristyn Getty, Ed Cash, Fionan De Barra and Samuel Wesley, 2015.”]

LYRICS

Verse 1
Facing a task unfinished
That drives us to our knees.
A need that undiminished
Rebukes our slothful ease.
We who rejoice to know Thee
Renew before Thy throne,
The solemn pledge we owe Thee
To go and make Thee known!

Verse 2
Where other lords beside Thee
Hold their unhindered sway,
Where forces that defied Thee
Defy Thee still today.
With none to heed their crying
For life and love and light.
Unnumbered souls are dying
And pass into the night.

Chorus
We go to all the world
With kingdom hope unfurled*
(*Unfurled – To spread out or unfold)
No other name has power to save
But Jesus Christ The Lord

Verse 3
We bear the torch that flaming
Fell from the hands of those,
Who gave their lives proclaiming
That Jesus died and rose.
Ours is the same commission;
The same glad message ours.
Fired by the same ambition
To Thee we yield our powers.

Verse 4
O Father who sustained them
O Spirit who inspired,
Saviour whose love constrained them
To toil with zeal untired.
From cowardice defend us,
From lethargy awake!
Forth on Thine errands send us
To labour for Thy sake.
