Every year our denomination, REACHSA (Reformed, Evangelical, Anglican, Church of South Africa), invites people from across South African to join their annual Synod. It’s an encouraging time to see what God is doing across South Africa. The event is designed to not only show what churches are doing, but what ministries are being started, what schools are growing and what others are doing to reach their communities. Often we become despondent, and wonder what God is doing. Synod is great in opening our eyes to the greatness of God’s reach in our country.
The event does have some moments where denomination business is discussed. This is where only ordained ministers are allowed to vote. However, lay people are allowed to sit in on these, giving them a look into the decisions and work of the denomination.
