Christ Church Midrand runs an apprenticeship scheme, which has been established to help people, particularly those in their 20s and 30s, to consider and train for a lifetime in paid gospel ministry.
The biblical basis for this ministry is found in Matthew 9:38 where the lord Jesus Christ, after observing the pitiful condition of the people and the shortage of labourers for the work of the kingdom, urges his disciples to ‘ask the lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field’.(NIV) The vision of the scheme is that many gifted and godly men and women would be identified, recruited, trained and sent out to take the gospel of Jesus Christ to those living in this country and overseas.
The aim is for interested persons to join the scheme for 1-2 years during which they are provided with good practical experience in gospel ministry, before they enter formal theological training or return to secular work. Through the scheme ‘apprentices’ will grow in their knowledge of the bible and ministry, develop a godly servant-hearted character and be equipped with basic bible handling and leadership skills.
